Siempre se espera que los precios se formen y sigan tendencias, incluso al azar. Es más probable que un precio continúe una tendencia pasada a que se mueva erráticamente.
Los analistas técnicos basan sus predicciones en la observación de que la historia tiende a moverse en ciclos y, por tanto, a repetirse. Atribuyen los movimientos históricos de precios a psicología del mercado asada en el miedo o la emoción.
