Since our last report<\/a>, gold\u2019s upward direction was this week as well, despite retreating from its newly formed all-time high figure at roughly $2940 per troy ounce. In today\u2019s report, we are to discuss the possible implications of Trump\u2019s continued tariff ambitions and the possibility of a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine. For a rounder view, we will conclude the report with a technical analysis of gold\u2019s four-hour chart.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump tariff plans continue<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The White House<\/strong> announced last Thursday that President Trump<\/strong> had signed a Presidential Memorandum ordering the development of a comprehensive plan for restoring fairness in U.S trade relationships<\/strong> and countering non-reciprocal trading arrangements. According to the statement released by the White House, \u201cThe Fair and Reciprocal Plan will seek to correct longstanding imbalances in international trade and ensure fairness across the board.\u201d Overall, it appears that the administration may be implementing reciprocal tariffs on its trading partners in the near future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, the uncertainty surrounding trade and international relationships may be leading to increased uncertainty as to how to price in tariffs and their true implications. In turn, investors may turn to gold as a safe haven asset which may have aided the precious metal\u2019s price. In our view, the uncertainty surrounding Trump\u2019s tariff ambitions and the possible trade wars that may ensue could aid gold\u2019s price given its status as a safe haven asset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine-Russia peace deal in the works?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

President Trump<\/strong> last week held a phone call with President Putin<\/strong>, sparking immediate concern that the US was preparing to \u201csell-out\u201d Ukraine. President Trump stated following the call that negotiations to end the war would begin \u201cimmediately\u201d and at the time of this report, talks between US and Russian officials have started in Riyadh<\/strong> which are \u201cprimarily devoted to restoring the whole complex of Russian-American relations\u201d per Kremlin spokesman Peskov and that \u201cthere will be discussions on possible negotiations on a Ukrainian resolution\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most recent update in the peace talks which occurred today was the statement by the US Secretary of State Rubio<\/strong> who stated per the Guardian that \u201cThe goal is to bring an end to this conflict in a way that\u2019s fair, enduring, sustainable and acceptable to all parties involved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What that looks like? Well, that\u2019s what this what the ongoing engagement is going to be all about.\u201d However, Ukraine<\/strong> according to its President, has not been invited to the negotiation<\/strong> table and thus we remain highly skeptical of any ceasefire or peace proposals that could be presented which have not received the support and approval of Ukraine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nonetheless, should a peace agreement be implemented and signed by all parties, it could ease geopolitical concerns in Europe and could in turn weigh<\/strong> on the precious metal\u2019<\/strong>s price and vice versa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
